It was only the first day of school, and I am in a dilemma already, I need your valuable feedbacks. Thank you!
I have only two lectures today, after that I attended Global Immersion Programme (GIP) talk with Moses. Before the talk, I told him I wanted to go to Europe, especially France or Australia, but definitely not Asian countries. Then after the two hours' talk, I am totally in a dilemma now, because it is so expensive to go to Europe and earn only 10 AUs as compared to 16 for Work and Study in China / Indian / Vietnam / Indonesia. Below is the comparison:
-10 AUs earned for Industrial Attachment
-Additional 6 AUs earned for AHSS or UE
-22 weeks of work in the city
-3-5 weeks spent in the host university on two cultural/history courses (lessons in Chinese)
-Fee: SGD$7000 for 6 months
-Earn intern salary of about 2K RMB
-Interested in Beijing (Peking Uni, Tsing Hua Uni) or Shanghai (Fudan Uni, Shanghai Jiaotong Uni), China.
-10 AUs earned for Industrial Attachment
-No additional academic units
-22 weeks of research in the university
-Fee: SGD$14000 for 6 months
-No pay, no allowance for six months of research (meaning free labour)(first turn off)
-Need to come out with a project and submit a proposer (second turn off)
-Interested in France, Switzerland or UK.
My dear friend, if you were me, which will you choose to go to? China or Europe? Go China needs to pay only about 7K, with month salary from work. Can earn extra AUs for electives by studying a month at the local University. Or Europe? Go there need to spend double the amount, worse still, no salary/allowance is given. So it is more like we spend money to go for research. But going to Europe has been my dream from year 1 till now, especial France or Switzerland. I am sure I will gain alot more from the culture and polish up my French, but too expensive!
HELP!
